Rating: NOFX playing Punk in Drublic at the DNC? Word. I caught the now-defunct Metal Hearts three years ago in the basement of the Ohio University student center. It’s a shame they never got a chance to break out even more. The duet’s simple baritone and drum anchored fuzz rock album Socialize was full of heartbreaking, simply honest insight:
Pretty girls, they are persuasive (“Socialize”)
You are so gorgeous, twirling in your dress. (“Foothills”)
Delivered with a near monotonic melody, lines like these harken bark to the days of sixteen year-old, misfit love. Not to be confused with Misfit love, mind you. It’s just too bad I spend my lovelorn youth with NOFX and not the Metal Hearts.
I heart Tom Waits, repeats notwithstanding.
