that rare emotion
tonight, barack obama is accepting the democratic nomination for president of the united states. at this moment, i have never been more proud of my fellow american citizens. i am a cynic by nature; for my first 2 elegible election cycles, not a single candidate i voted for in any national or significant state elections won their seat. ohio also passed an amedment to the state constitution banning gay marriage. i had never been more disappointed in my fellow americans, especially my fellow ohioans. the flames of that anger have only been fanned further by the last eight years of corrupt and incompetent government.
i believe in a strong federal system, one that looks out for our well being and one that has the fiscal power and responsibility to improve our infrastructure, our economy, and our well-being, especially the well-being of those less fortunate than many of us, a division of this nation that is only continuing to grow as the prices of education increase exponentially and well paying jobs evaporate. this type of government has not existed since i’ve been of voting age. for a long period of the last eight years i had dropped out, didnt even bother to care about our country, because i felt powerless to change the system. barack obama has brought me back into the fold. and for tonight, i will set aside my inherent criticisms of government’s past policy. tonight, i am proud, and i am excited to be an american, maybe for the first time in my life.
thank you, barack obama. thank you for making me, and so many others like me, care once more. it is time to elect you as our president. it is time save our society.
